Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] Spring Update

Although the weather is cloudy, I have a lot to look forward to this spring semester. I want to just take this time to once again say thank you to Give Something Back for their generous scholarship opportunity. With the recent increase in tuition, the scholarship has helped me combat the financial hardship and remain active in Bear Minimum- an organization that sells Bear Hats on Game Days and donates 100% of the profit to the Berkeley Food and Housing Shelter.

Here is an update about Bear Minimum's accomplishments:
Bear Minimum has now donated over $10,000 to the local community, and sales have exceeded $15,000. Additionally, we did a good deal better this year than past years and it was very much thanks to everyones' contributions.

Here is a picture of our organization giving the Berkeley Food and Housing Project a $2000 donation.

This semester I am looking forward to taking classes that focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In today's current climate, CSR is a growing idea among businesses and it is important to progressively work towards benefiting the community and environment we live in. This semester, I am looking forward to listening to CSR speakers talk about current issues we are facing!

Thank you again Give Something Back & the Center for Social Responsibility for giving me an opportunity to make a difference and to continue to pursue a path that will one day bring more awareness to businesses about their responsibilities to society.

Thank You Give Something Back

My name is Melissa Medina and I am a third year student at the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, I am pursuing a simultaneous degree in business administration and political science because my two passions reside in business and law.

I was recently admitted into Haas Business School and heard about the Give Something Back Scholarship. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to pursue my passion to give back while relieving my financial burden.

To me the Give Something Back Scholarship relieves my financial tension and allows more time to focus on my ambition and passion to volunteer. Now I am able to spend more time concentrating on academics and philanthropic organizations. In addition, it will provide early experience, which later converts into an investment in future possibilities.

I am thankful for and highly admire Give Something Back's Scholarship and I hope they continue to invest in this scholarship for future years to come. I am also thankful for the people I met during the process. The GSB Staff members were genuine and welcoming. Likewise the other nominees were friendly (one of them in currently in a class I am taking).

All in all, thank you again GSB for this opportunity. If any of you are interested, make sure to check out the website: http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/responsiblebusiness/GiveSomethingBackScholarship.htm
